First of all, I was in utter shocked as I write today's reflection as if we were actually, or eventually, in our final week. SURREAL. I was in total speechless mode. It has been 14 weeks since we had our Computer in Education class, and that a lot to content. Just a glimpse of our experiences, I've got to learn a lot, of course, and fact is that I was grown matured (I believe it so) through these enormous and meaningful experiences in UKM.

Enrolling into student's life after 9 months of  'vacation' after completing my STPM level, it has been quite challenging and hectic challenge for me, not only because I was just 'awaken' from my long lasting dreams the entire 9 months of holiday but also because I've got to challenge myself to overcome such business and craziness of packed schedules. I felt like I was an amateur once again without reminiscing that I was actually had been there, in that phase once upon a time.

Moving on to my initial point :)
I am here to talk about our today's tasks. Tasks. Yes, there you go. We had two tasks as for today we were exposed by Dr. Fariza on Microsoft Excel. I was in total numbness as if I've just came to realization that was how teaches are grading students' marks. We were then assigned to create our own sheet with 30 students's names, subjects, grades and total marks. I thought it was going to be completed as to my assumption, Microsoft Excel could be hard to deal with sometimes (because I'm just a amateur, perhaps :P) But, to my relieved, I was managed to complete my task of the day ;) Below is the example of my completed task!

Last but not least, we were also presenting our video, which was quite a mess and I did not satisfied with it. Definitely our fault tho. :( I came to realize to never do my work nonchalantly in the future as little things also do matter. But, I've also realized that it is okay to make mistakes as it's one of the nature demand to learn. Just take for example of those who had been in highest places. I believe they had been through so much hardships and made lots of mistakes in order to be who they are now. Also, I've got to learn to sincerely accept criticizes with upon heart as if we could never be always right and it is okay to listen to others' opinions as if we would be able to improve ourselves to be much better person afterward :)

Also, I've realized one enormously important part of our video creation task. First of all, I've got to my sense as a human being as we seen this video called changing batteries, as it is something not only conveying the message of dependencies on ICT, but also it is something that perfectly fitted our nowadays' human nature whereby people are rather seemed to be so busy to spend their times on their own family. "Life is a race","Everything is money.", "Time is priceless. You lose, you're loser". These common saying are, unfortunately (as to my opinion they were very unfortunately had brushed people's mind so perfectly) had successfully brushing our nurtured minds since we were kids and that is why we've been seeing people are building an old folks home as we our times were always "demanded" by our work. Apparently, as we can see form this video, that some people could never refuse the demanding workplace-phoned, and thanks to dear well-paid off salary they were still be able to send an ICT-based material to carry on their responsibility. Then, it teaches me how to value my relationship with my loved ones, my parents especially. It such a tremendous failure when this guy as in the video had replacing himself, as if he has been trading his responsibility as a child with the robot. You see, people are always giving an excuse without clearly thinking of the consequences. Losing his mother without his presence during her last moment would be such a fatal regretful moment in his life. That's all my thought, guys. Thanks.

Hellooooooooo!
Greetings again from me, fellas :) !!
Today's entrance was simple because we had no class due to Hari Keputeraan Sultan Selangor. (Cheering!) That moment when class cancellation was announced :)) (Jump!) Hahaha. I am pretty sure it wasn't just me but every students felt so. Enough with the nonsense, let's moving on to our real case.

The case is that, though there is not class for today, we had two delayed our task of the week. As for today (week 12), we were supposed to discuss on our video creation again with Dr. Fariza but seemed like we have to figure it out ourselves. Nonetheless, me and my team are ready enough to create our video with Farah as our honored director , whilst me and Yennie as our actresses. (lol)

Our plan is simple. We've decided to use online video which related to our topic, that is Dependencies on ICT,  and Farah is going to edit a little bit, and for me and Yennie, we would be doing the review at the end of our video. The struggle is real tho. Haha. It so because we were struggling with WiFi connection that will be unconnected its wanted to, but, so far we were in good term. :)

There's this things I've realized when we were creating our video. Team work. Team work is always an issue whenever it comes to team work, but to our fortunate, our group seemingly never to have such issues ;) Thus, this task managed to bring us closer and tons of laughter were shared. Besides, I've also realized that this task taught me never to dependent on anybody, especially ICT as in our topic. It so because you could never work your brain out if only Google is the only thing you'd rely on.

3 weeks to go before we enroll our final exam (facepalm). I just cannot believe this. It has been quite a up and down path ever since I was here. But depression is not something I'd like to discuss in today's entry, as if I'm going to talk something else, lol, something pretty common, of course, WEEKLY TASK! Another week, another Friday, another task of course ;)

As usual, I'd be talking about our weekly task assigned by Dr. Fariza in our Computer in Education class every Friday. Firstly, as for today's starter, we were asked to discuss a storyboard for our upcoming project. What kind of project is it? Yaas, we're making video soon! :D !! You know that kind of video which quite similar to short film. So, me and teammates were discussing about our storyboard. Jeng jeng jeng..

As a conclusion, we were finally agreed to make short film based on our topic, Dependencies on ICT.  We have had decided there will be no acting scenes which could terribly gone wrong (lol) as if we're trying to make if fun but fail to convey our message to the audience at the end. Hence, we will be 'directing' a video, which will be including 5 elements of multimedia.

Thus, today's lesson teaches me a lot, as usual. First, it teaches me how to be organize in setting up not only a storyboard but for my future plan forward as well as being an organizable person might could help in managing my study and play times. Besides, it teaches me also in building team work between my teammates and I as we're getting closer to each other and is that we would be able to adapt in new surrounding in future.

It felt surreal that we've finally in our 10th week for our Computer in Education class. As I'd realized we've almost comes to the end of this semester, there are many things I've got to reflect. As for our class today, Dr. Fariza assigned us with new task, and now we're 'playing' with Microsoft Publisher as we'd be creating our own very first brochure. Speaking of brochure, often we found out brochure is giving to us as  'a piece of paper full with information' and that is without exactly knowing how to create one. So, in regard of today's reflection, I've finally got to know how to create my very own brochure!

Surprisingly, it's not really that hard to work on or perhaps it so because I've always curious and so I felt it wasn't something bored nor completed to learn. We were assigned to create our brochure based on our last week's topic whereas we were questioned by Dr. Fariza on her forum site of our dream vacation. As an answer to her question, I answered London, United Kingdom. Thus, I put on my reasons on my brochure and it seemed perfectly fine :P

As a conclusion, I think this assignment kinda made me realized that I have a dream that I have not yet fulfilled. Thus, it does helping in reminding me to work things up to catch my dream vacation! And for that I have to work a little bit smart and harder in order to enjoy my future day in London :P

Week 9

11/20/2015

Hey there, readers! Here I am back talking reflection and assignment with you guys. As I've mentioned in my last week's reflection, I've just got back from holiday, as in student's life, there's nothing such 'freedom' on holiday. It is just the matter of not be able to set on your alarm and waking up early, lol. I was blessed and it was such a good feeling to be back, although, I felt a little bit numb as my holiday wasn't something typical for others. But I've managed to move on, with my family around me and my friend who are always there for me.

It's Friday, of course there would be a weekly task in our Computer in Education class. As for someone who's not very keen on ICT (hahaha), I think I really love this class, although, of course there would be plenty of tasks assigned :P A peek of being a student, don't you think? Enough with the nonsense talk, let's get back to my weekly reflection.

Today we were in our week 9 of Comp in Edu class. We were still in our last week's task, it is so because it is a continuous task. Particularly, after the online survey has been filled, we were now in our 'analyzing phase'. REPORT. Yes, we were assigned to do a report based on our online survey data, which has been automatically collected by Google Form itself.  As usual, it was always so amusing to get to know what Google Form is capable of. We're asked to write our report in Google Doc, which actually really helping in communicating among team members as we don't have to personally present to write a report.

On the other hand, we've also got to know the result of our survey. As expected, it showed that students in UKM are dependent on ICT in their daily lives; doing assignment, for instance. Hence, I've got to know students are having second thoughts in choosing either to think critically or Google-ing. In short term, it is typical for us nowadays to rely on ICT, but it also concerning that students nowadays are too dependent on ICT as it could harm their thinking skills. Thus, as a student myself, I felt that we should know how to balance both methods as they're both offer benefits.

Week 8

Week 8 of our Computer in Education class, it's just felt surreal! It has been such a hectic yet horrible week in my life :(  I was in my holiday leave when this week's task was assigned to us, but lucky me, I've got my friends whom nicely updating each and every details of our task ;)

Moving on guys. So, as for this week, there's nothing much to do as we were assigned to fill every groups' questionnaires. Besides, we were also assigned to do some research on how to analyze the data collected as our survey has completely filled. On the other hand, it was surprising to finally know Google Form was the 'one' that collected the data for us! (lol)

After a week of our online survey has been postulated, we've received quite a few numbers of responses :D It was so comforting and nice to know that people don't just simply ignoring our online survey. :P As a conclusion, I've learned a lot from Dr. Fariza regarding Google Form. You know that moment when we used to distribute papers to conduct a survey on something, but there's other better, yet easier way to get the response and also the data would be collected for you as well!

You see, this task made me realize about how much we need each other in society. Just think of it when there's nobody is going to respond to our questionnaire, I'd felt dumped. Another thing is that, how absurd that we can actually know what other is thinking of by asking them a question, online, and we've just need to sorted out the questions online, waiting few days to get it done for us. I just in total awe on how ICT can actually do the whole thing for us!

Week 7

10/31/2015

Heyyyy guysss! So far it has been a hectic week in UKM, tons of assignments kept haunting me T.T but nevermind, I am not the only who's facing the same problem, am I right? :D Alright, enough with the nonsense talk, let's get moving to our weekly assignment!
As usual, there would be an assignment/task waiting for us every Friday. As for today's task, it was quite 'something' because I've been wondering since forever on the process or what they called 'method' on how to create an online survey. Yes, online survey or questionnaire.
First of all, we were guided by Dr. Fariza on the steps in preparing online questionnaire. As we were guided, we were then search the materials on our own. As for instances, the objectives and the processes of the questionnaire. Thus, we were doing a survey  as regard to  our last week's presentation, entitled Dependencies on ICT.
Our group is consist of 3 persons, me, Yennie and Farah. As usual, we will distributed our tasks so it would be easy for us three to complete our survey. There's so many things I could reflect to regarding our today's task. Particularly, I get to know on how to make it easy to get to know other's choices as they respond to our survey. Besides, I have also found it very convenient to get to 'communicate' (in a term of asking opinion/question) to others by conducting an online questionnaire.
Last but not least, I've also realized that we should really know our intention of asking others a question. It is just us people always asking without even knowing what our motives are In short term, by conducting an online survey, I've realized that we should know whether the questions are accurate, understandable and related to the topic asked.

WEEK 6

Hey, there! As usual, I'd be sharing my reflection on our today's lesson. It was nothing much to do but sure there was lots of new knowledges gained during Dr. Fariza's class.
As for today, we were asked to search on CASPER, which is a method to create a creative presentation. It so because with CASPER, we can arrange and create our texts, graphics and colors nicely done.
Besides, we were also asked to create a presentation on Google Slide. Thus, I've finally knew that we can also create an online basis presentation with our partner!
Therefore, we were creating our own slide/presentation based on CASPER method as it would be easier for us.
Thus, we were also conducted by Dr. Fariza on how our presentation is supposed to at the end of the class before our next week presentation! :)

There is one thing I've learnt from this week task was that, "Rule makes life easier". It is so because by following the CASPER concepts, we can actually creating that one simple yet informative slide presentation. Therefore, I will make sure this beneficial concept will be share with my future students.

Week 5

10/11/2015

Hello, there readers! Just so you know, we had a very interesting class on week 5 whereby we were instructed to search a topic given to our group, and for our group 3, we were required to search for Thinking Skills in ICT.
Today I'd like to share my thought here about the relationship between Thinking Skills in ICT. Often we heard of ICT because it's a common medium for us nowadays. ICT means information and communications technology - or technologies is a medium that includes any communication device or application, encompassing: radio, television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems and so on, as well as the various services and applications associated with them. Meanwhile, Thinking Skills are mental processes we use to do things like: solve problems, make decisions, ask questions, construct plans, evaluate ideas, organise information and create objects. Thinking skills enable us to integrate each new experience into the schema that we are constructing of "how things are".  It is apparent that better thinking will help us to learn more from our experience and to make better use of our intelligence.

How Thinking Skills and ICT are related?
ICTs are a potentially powerful tool for extending educational opportunities, both formal and non-formal, to previously underserved constituencies—scattered and rural populations, groups traditionally excluded from education due to cultural or social reasons such as ethnic minorities, girls and women, persons with disabilities, and the elderly, as well as all others who for reasons of cost or because of time constraints are unable to enroll on campus.

Advantages of ICT in education.
  • Anytime, anywhere.  One defining feature of ICTs is their ability to transcend time and space. ICTs make possible asynchronous learning, or learning characterized by a time lag between the delivery of instruction and its reception by learners. Online course materials, for example, may be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. ICT-based educational delivery (e.g., educational programming broadcast over radio or television) also dispenses with the need for all learners and the instructor to be in one physical location. Additionally, certain types of ICTs, such as teleconferencing technologies, enable instruction to be received simultaneously by regardless time and space.
  • Access to remote learning resources.  Teachers and learners no longer have to rely solely on printed books and other materials in physical media housed in libraries (and available in limited quantities) for their educational needs. With the Internet and the World Wide Web, a wealth of learning materials in almost every subject and in a variety of media can now be accessed from anywhere at anytime of the day and by an unlimited number of people. This is particularly significant for many schools in developing countries, and even some in developed countries, that have limited and outdated library resources. ICTs also facilitate access to resource persons, mentors, experts, researchers, professionals, business leaders, and peers—all over the world.
  • ICTs help prepare individuals for the workplace. One of the most commonly cited reasons for using ICTs in the classroom has been to better prepare the current generation of students for a workplace where ICTs, particularly computers, the Internet and related technologies, are becoming more and more ubiquitous. Technological literacy, or the ability to use ICTs effectively and efficiently, is thus seen as representing a competitive edge in an increasingly globalizing job market.

Disadvantages of ICT in education.
  • Student dependencies on ICT.  Students may become too reliant on computers and would not be able to learn other skills thoroughly enough. for example, they may use the computer to do some mathematical activities rather than learning and understanding themselves. They may be able to get a good result, but not really know what it means. Students may not fully engage in research and experiments, but use search engines for resources. Manual research, like going into libraries, and talking directly to people is often better and helps students gain a better understanding of the information they are getting.
  • Lack of knowledge. Reliant students are lacked of knowledge as their dependencies on ICT does not enchances their thinking skills as much as manual method does. Manual method or reading are proven to be more efficient in enchancing one's imagination as its acquire student to reflect their vision, as for visual media-based educator, on the other hand, they have just be able to process what has been posted or shown to them instead of trying to figure out by themselves. This is particularly causes student to have less ability in critical thinking and creative thinking.

Week 4

Today we were in our week 4 class, and as usual there's a group task. As for today, we were assisted to search any related information on Learning Management System, Content Management and Course Management System.
Learning management system (LMS) is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of electronic educational technology (also called e-learning) education courses or training programs. Besides, it also delivers content and handles registering for courses, course administration, skills gap analysis, tracking, and reporting. For example, LMS is used by educational institutions to enhance and support classroom teaching and offering courses to a larger population of learners. Some LMS providers include "performance management systems", which encompass students appraisals, competency management, and academic-gap analysis. (eg. SMP web)
Meanwhile, Course Management System is a collection of software tools providing an online environment for course interactions. CMS also is typically integrated with other databases in the university so that students enrolled in a particular course are automatically registered in the CMS as participants in that course. CMS includes some other tools such as; To record grades and each students can view their grades or as a tool for students to post their assignments.
(eg. iFolio)
Last but not least, Content Management System is a system used to manage a website. It is a software or a group or suite of applications and tools that enable an organization to seamlessly create, edit, review and publish electronic text. (eg. Dropbox, GoogleDrive, blogs)
